The Ibanez AF-9 Auto Filter is an envelope-following filter pedal whose filter sweep is triggered by picking dynamics rather than a manual control. Its Mode switch selects between low-pass and band-pass filter responses, changing the character of the sweep from a deep, open wah-like effect to a more focused, vocal-like peak. The Sensitivity control sets how strongly the input signal's amplitude drives the filter's frequency movement, so harder picking produces a more pronounced sweep while lighter playing yields subtler movement. The Peak control adjusts the filter's resonance, emphasizing the frequencies around the cutoff point to make the effect more pronounced and synth-like. The pedal's output level is set by the Level control, which balances the effected signal against the dry guitar tone. The AF-9 is housed in a compact pedal format with a true bypass footswitch, and it operates on a standard 9-volt DC power supply.
