The Electro Harmonix Zipper is an envelope-controlled filter pedal that combines a dynamic wah-like filter with a built-in envelope generator. Its primary control, the Sensitivity knob, determines how strongly the filter responds to picking dynamics; higher settings make the filter sweep more aggressively with each note. The Mode switch selects between different filter responses, such as low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass, altering the timbre from dark and mellow to bright and piercing. A separate Envelope control adjusts the amount of filter modulation, allowing subtle or extreme sweeps. The pedal also features a Blend control to mix the dry guitar signal with the filtered effect, preserving the original attack while adding the sweeping character. An internal trim pot can adjust the filter's frequency range to match different pickups. The Zipper operates on a standard 9V DC power supply and includes a bypass switch for true bypass operation, ensuring the guitar signal remains uncolored when the effect is off.
