Electro Harmonix Micro Synth
Electro Harmonix Micro Synth You know the sound. Now, the reissued Micro Synthesizer for lets you produce vintage analog synthesizer sounds such as those generated by the early, great Moog synthesizers. The Micro Synthesizer's ten slider controls give you complete control over the processed sound. Four completely independent and fully mixable voices-guitar, octave above, sub-octave, and square wave (or distortion) are modified by the resonance, start frequency, stop frequency, and rate controls of the filter sweep section to create the classic analog synthesizer sounds.

Unless you are pedal scientist, I would not recommend this pedal. Not saying that it isn't interesting, but it's not easy to use by any means. I've never really been able to get anything too remarkable out of it for guitar . For the most part the sounds are pretty generic for the guitar. On the otherhand, it works well with drum machines or noise loops to change it up a little bit. It's ok with vocals, but only enhances the bass. Overall, it doesn't live up to the hype in my humble opinion.

Good Points: Works well with loops and drum machines or any percussion instruments.

Bad Points: Pretty lame efffects with the guitar, mainly a hi-tech fuzz pedal.

Electro-Harmonix creates some sexy pedals. This cinderblock is all die-cast metal with ten sliders for more control beyond the mundane few-knobs format. There are two main sections: four "filter sweep" sliders (start freq, stop freq, rate, resonance), four "voice mix" controls (octave, sub octave, guitar, square wave). There's also a slider for attack delay and trigger (sensitivity). Screwing with the trigger is cool for gated stuttering and machine-gun sputters. The filter sounds decent but sort of on the weak side. Sweeps are kinda trite so it sometimes set start and stop at the same freq or very close. Resonance never self-oscillated, of course (it's no synth), but could get thin and nasal. "Square Wave" can get pretty nasty and rough! It's really a fuzz control. Octave adds a high-end sheen while the sub octave (nothing to knock down walls) but is decent at enhancing bass. The tread vs. response is normal - satisfying resistance and range of results. This pedal is great for analog burbles, sputters, fizzes, and glitches. In the end, I couldn't justify keeping it for the price tag.

Good Points: all-metal construction, ten tweakable controls, sliders can be moved a few at a time, the rough fuzz

Bad Points: wall wart power supply, large size, not cheap

Great box, confusing at first but once mastered great. The synth sounds are ok, not too good for noise, but where this box really shines is the fuzz.
Run this into a big muff and destroy the world!!!

Good Points: The fuzz!!!!! The fuzz!!!!!

Bad Points: the rest

Odd one this. It's meant to be to make guitars sound like moogs, and It does sound very synthy, but it doesn't really sustian. It sounds a bit cheesy IMO. It only tracks single notes, not chords. You can get lots of cool noises with this, it does the doctor who theme well!
It's also useful for studio use, it's got octave up and down, a nasty buzzy fuzz and interesting volume swells like the $$$$ boss slowgear. Wouldn't use it live but it's still a lot of fun and I'm sure it could be useful for noise.

Good Points: Does a lot of useful things and makes spacey sounds.

Bad Points: I wouldn't use take it out due to it's price and it feels a bit flimsy. Get a real moog if you want that sound.
