DOD Metal X FX70

DOD Metal X FX70
The DOD FX70 Metal X is a high gain, overdriven noisy distortion pedal that accents the very high and the very low sounds. Great for noise. In the same vein as the DOD FX70C Corrosion distortion pedal. Crazy!

Only a few things to add: This pedal works fantastically with bass. Circuit bending it yields a noise synth and fuzzed out ring modulation, sometimes both at once.

Good Points: Loud, cheap, sounds great, easy and worthwhile to circuit bend

Bad Points: Bypass switch doesn't always work right

I've got this pedal today and fell in love with it - it's raw, brutal and great. If you're tired of the Death Metal and Metal Zone pedals - try this one, it made me smile.

Good Points: - Brutal - Raw - Great lows - Loud!

Bad Points: The usual suspects: - Battery cover - on/off switch - power input

The main event in this pedal is the gain. Don't get me wrong, the distortion is good, but the gain in this thing is amazing. I would suggest putting it at the end of a feedback loop to really drive your tone to new levels. Or a contact microphone. Or anything pretty much. Loud loud loud.

Good Points: Loud and built by DOD.

Bad Points: Old DOD power source.

I picked this up at the same time as a couple other distortions, and was a little worried this might be too similar, but that was ridiculous -- total blownout overdriven loud as hell crush is the name of the game here, but not (as I feared) a one-trick pony. There's quite a bit of range here, useful in lots of setups (tho I usually leave it near the end for volume boost), especially next to a distortion with sweepable mid (I got a Metal Planet the same week, and they're excellent together, probably the same with an MT2). I can't comment on how it shapes up with the other FX70 pedals, but if I see another of these at a decent price I'm definitely getting it. Just about perfect -- I can't even complain about the regular DOD goofy knob labels,

Good Points: Tons of overdriven distortion Plenty of volume Plenty of range

Bad Points: None

one of dod's best...great bass and treble response, very staticy, harsh distortion, i found it to be not as good in the f.b.l. but on it's own it's pretty outstanding...better than the american metals a little harsher than the grunges but not as bassy.

Good Points: easy to use, cheap

Bad Points:

Super nasty, LOUD distortion. Incredible with a contact mic, EQ sweep is wide and you can get muddy, suffocating lows or sick crackly highs. Good if you need a semi-clean boost, lower the gain and boost the level. As always, DOD construction does not dissapoint.

Good Points: Sinister distortion. Good EQ sweep, good rumbly lows and crackly highs. construction rules, its like a metal brick.

Bad Points: none

Great noise pedal. It sounds more beefy/heavy & less shrill/creaky in timbre than its cousin the FX70C Corrosion, and has a little higher volume with the knob in the middle at 12 'O clock, wasn't able to check if the volume change is differs between the two with different signals through it at different level settings, kind of hard to do with just a contact mic.

Good Points: Noise noise noise. Great crackle magenta colour finish, like the Grunge distortion case only more red.

Bad Points: I always forget which knob does what with the names, since some DOD distortion pedals put the level/volume all the way to the left and others have it on the far right.

first off i want to plug noisefx.com for excellent service and getting this pedal to me fast. if you havent ordered from them do so...you wont be dissapointed. what we have here is a balls to wall harsh distortion, with a decent bass (though not as pronounced as the super american metal), and searing high eq, this thing will rip right through your feedback loop, in which i had no problem with in such an application. this will reach clanging metalic tones, that complement a ring mod and envelope filter very well. if you send enough through this it will reach self oscillation, and can be overpowering at moments, but of course is easily brought back down to size if you know how. i havent had this much fun with a distortion in awhile, and despite its stupid name, i think its a must have for any one who wants a little more oomph to their sound...

Good Points: great range of harsh sounds self oscillating no stupid control names old style off/on switch dod construction decent paint job

Bad Points: none really...

I have every edition of the FX70's, and two Metal X's. They work best with contact mics and not as good as some of my other favorite distortions in loops. This is incredibly high gain and turns a contact mic into a raging wall of feedback while still letting the source through. I like stacking a couple or a few of these in a chain with other modulation or filter effects mixed in.

Good Points: Super high gain.

Bad Points: Noisy.
