I finally got my hands on a DOD FX25 (B, that is)...

I don't know how this thing compares to the original FX25, but it kicks the Danelectro Auto Wah's ASS!

A lot of reviews mention this thing loses volume... I think it just creates a really low frequency that *seems* quieter (I think it's worth trying this with a compressor after it).

Good Points: Very cool, synthy tones are possible in loops with modulation effects via the "Sensitivity" and "Range" knobs.

Interesting dynamics that don't negatively affect the Noise-making process (for me, at least).

Can achieve a nice "glitch" and stutter effect on occasion-- I really like the way it sounds.

Affordable if you are willing to shop around.

Sounds cool on geetars too, if that interests you.

Bad Points: I hate the LEDs on these pedals... It looks like mine is pushed in a bit (something I've always suspected to be a problem with this era of DOD pedals).

Sometimes it doesn't add a whole lot with straight signal chains unless there is a big boost before the input.

Some distortions won't "play" well with the EF in FB loops--You need to experiment and find the right spot for it.

This thang been in my rig LONG TIME.. i think the blend is IRREPLACABLE.. and that this wins over the 440 beacuse of it.. it can bleep and bloop with the rest of them.. beats any boss ibanez dunlop clear out the water.. this the chorus the death metal, to me, are the 3 that are the only thang worth bothering with when it comes to dod

Frnakly stunning. These can be picked up really cheaply on ebay which is always an added bonus when you consider how tweakable this thing is in a feedback loop. Shrieks, rumbles, squirts, quacks, wombing noises..... this thing burps 'em all out. Also, trying running a distorted detuned radio through it. Sounds like some kind of electronic arctic gale or something. The only problem with this unit is the volume drop mentioned below. This can actually be really frustrating if yr wanting to use it on a clean signal, but since I usually use it along with some kind of distortion it doesn't really effect me that much.

Good Points: - Really squelchy.
- Can manipulate the senstivity knob the create filter sweeps.
- Cheap and freely available.

Bad Points: - The volume drop. AAAARRGHHH!

Great chip pedal with a great range of sound.
You can ear your windows shaking with its bass freq.
The sensitivity know does its job very well: push it after a death metal and play with the knobs of mid freq and volume...
One bad point: the loss of volume.

Good Points: -cheap
-very responsive
-good range of sounds

Bad Points: -loss of volume, if you put it after a distortion.

very handy in combination with anything that produces vaguely rhythmic noise. I usually use it
after either a phaser (boss ph-3
or ibanez pm-7 work well) or a tremolo with the rate cranked. Throw a meatbox after it, and its endless fun.

I tend to just keep the settings pegged most of the time.

I've got a boss autowah and some
env filter style effects on multi-fx boxes, but this thing sounds much better, with a wider
range of sounds, and muct more
dynamics.

Good Points: fairly cheap, interesting dynamics, adds interesting flavor to rhythmic sounds

Bad Points: controls do not seem to do alot with loud signals throw at it.

Sounds Great!!! Works wonderfully for funk sounds, but put this in a loop and the skies will open!!! Must find the right place for it in your chain. See Bad points

Good Points: The range, super ear splitting highs and bowel loosening lows.

Bad Points: The blend control. When u turn it above 9/10 o'clock, you loose a lot of volume

the dod envelope FX25B adds a lot of quirky fun to my chain of effects, when used with common effects like fuzzes or disortions will make your usualy "quacking" sounds, it does wonders when run before a modified flanger. it gets pretty treble-y when the sensitivity passes 12 o clock. and twisting it back and forth with a delay makes for some great fun.

Good Points: cheap and abundant

Bad Points: none that i can think of

a nice envelope filter, havent used any others so i have nothing to compare to but...
it can change up your sound quite a bit. adding a lot of motion and sweeping to your sound, you really have to know where you want this in your chain as it can either take over the output or just muddy it up if you arent careful. the blending feature is great, you can tweak it to the point that it sounds best, especially great in a live setting. definitely has a sound that can be overdone though. ive tried it in a few different loop chains and it doesnt really do a whole lot. a nice addition to any set up though.

Good Points: adds some "motion" to your sound, autosweeps. if used in the right way a very interesting pedal.

Bad Points: can be overused. need to place it just right in your chain.

i'd previously used an FX25, same basic concept but sans the blend knob. in reality, the blend knob was essential in making this pedal truly useful. nice auto-wah tweakage, which is sustained if you're throwing a stream of noise through it or indiviual "waaaaaah" if you're pumping something intermittent through. it took some time to work this into my setup properly and figure out before and after which pedals it belongs, but the effects can be staggering (especially after some nasty distortion a la death metal). can make tape or a contact mic sound completely warbled. i hardly touch the range knob, but blend and sensitivity get tweaked often enough to make up for it. it tends to lose a lot of effects in most of the feedback loops i've stuck it in. also, it can muddy up the sound - you'll notice a difference in volume between effected and bypass, and its more obvious with the blend up higher.

Good Points: really adds a lot of dynamics to any sound source. don't bother with the FX25 if you can get the FX25B, the blend knob is a godsend. plus is cheap for what you get.

Bad Points: somewhat muddy sound, doesn't perform too well in a loop.
