DOD Classic Tube FX53

Classic Tube is an alternative to the Ibanez Tube screamer because it is not as harsh, and has better low end response. The Fx 53 Classic Tube duplicates the warm, smooth distortion and long, singing sustain and harmonics of the early 60s amp stacks. Has the following controls: Volume, Tone, and Drive, which adjusts the amount of distortion. This knob has a boost in the high position.

yup - nothing too exciting - i bought this as a bending target... however i've found it makes a great companion for an analogue drum machine (jomox airbase 99 in this case) - and has usurped my boss ds-1/digitech death metal/pearl ds-06 for these duties.

Good Points: fattens up an analogue drum machine nicely - if you like distorted 808/909 type sounds. (not too bad on guitar either - but nothing ground-breaking.)

Bad Points: it's subtle - definitely no good for harsh noise biznizz. noisy when cranked, but we so's everything. that's what gates are for.

This pedal brings a smooth sound, especially when used in conjunction with another drive pedal. Think Tubescreamer without the bite. It's not intended for blistering distortion or heavy thrash/metal - it emulates the classic sounds of a tube amp in front of a solid-state combo. Recommended for jazz/pop/classic rock sounds.

Good Points: Solid construction, clean sound, smooth response.

Bad Points: Lower-end quality - not cheap, just not the top-of-the line.

definately bottom of the barrel as far as distortions go, it's psuedo "warm" tone is just not powerful enough for the noise, no krackle, no hiss...no good.

Good Points: depends on your application, i guess but who wants a distortion that doesn't krakle and hiss?

Bad Points: overall sound

What a great pedal!! If you're looking for something a little different from the plethora of 'metallic' distortion pedals out there (esp DOD), look no further. THis pedal emulates a tube amp, giving your effect chain a warmth it may be missing. The LEVEL and TONE knobs are decent enough, but the DISTORTION really shines in the 'boost' mode! You may not use this pedal all the time, especially if you are into more 'harsh' noise. But it's nice to have this around for a change of pace.

Good Points: solid DOD construction, LEVEL,TONE,DISTORTION knobs, 'boost' mode, snazzy sports car red finish

Bad Points: nothing, except they are not readily available anymore

pretty boring... doesn't get anywhere near extreme, and it does NOT have any tubes in it. It's prolly subtly great for some buttrocker in some buttrockin' land, but for noise heds this is minor coloration.

Good Points: subtle, perhaps pretty. cheap.

Bad Points: very subtle, not for he noise crowd by any stretch.
