One of those "absolutely needed" extras, unless a mess of y chords are more your thing. Its 1 in => 4 identical outs: great for processing noise or any other signal in parallel--including patching an expression pedal >!?< into multiple <!?!> noise pedals like the latest BOSS AW-3 Dynamic Wah and their PH-3 Phaser. If it's audio signals that you're splitting, use a passive micromixer (like DOD's)
to recombine some or all of the four signals so that they can get to your amp with no hassle.
I've wired my multiple to the Behringer patch bay that sits at the top of the rack-mount gig case that contains all of my noise toys. That way routing any pedal to the multiple is a breeze, even live. Splitting an expression pedal to control two noise processors is "trïÔ" cool. <grin> So now you'll want two of them... Also good for sending the same sound to two amps for creating stereo effects. Routing noise to the splitter, then having out 1 processed by one phaser and bass distortion to amp #1; out 2 to another phaser + delay to amp #2. By playing with phaser speeds, you get pseudo-panning. Wild stuff.

Good Points: Simple, solid. Cute little rubber feet, to prevent mild slippage. Needs no power. A great convenience for use with a p-bay.

Bad Points: No mounting hole underneath for fixing to a rack shelf (Raxess, Whirlwind...). A bit pricey--you can get the same result with y-cables plugged into your pedals or patch bay.
