I played this one for while and I even like it more than a
DS-1 or DS-2. It has clearly more gain and overdrive in
it. But as someone said below me : you kinda miss the
boost...

So this is called Mega Distortion eh? Well... I wouldn't exactly call it mega. The EQ is very simple but works pretty well. The problem with this pedal is the loudness though... The gain boost is pretty much useless and another problem I witnessed is a signal drop. Yeah, not really something you'd like. Better to stay away from this one for noise.

I traded for one of these, what a piece of shit this is. Two days later i traded the MD in on an Electro Harmonix Metal muff. If you own one of these you should probably do what i did. I don't know why they called this the Mega distortion , it's not very "MEGA". The distortion is weak , the eq is fairly lame, the gain boost is absolutly useless. If you want a boss distortion get the metalzone and stay away from this stinker....and it's orange....bah puke.

For the price, it isn't that great. I was let down when I first used it. It has nice boost and a little bit of tone control in a loop, but nothing really great.
Good Points: Boost.

A waste of money. Not as good as others distortion (MT-2, Rat,...), it doesn't have an interesting EQ.
Good only for boost, but I prefer the FZ-2

I don't have much to add about what this thing does as is, however you may just want to pick this puppy up if you do circuit bending, as there are some of the sickest/most useful bends in there that I've seen out of any of the pedals I've gotten out of any of my other pedals

great distortion. the best by boss. could have alot more of a gain boost, though and made it actually louder than clean signal. great though. they should make something like this with high gain of metal zone and raunch of Turbo 2 distortion. that would be mega.

i don't like it. the eq is less versatile than the metal zone and the distortion is actually kind of weak imo. maybe since i use a metal zone already this thing is useless. i was hoping it would give me some added crunch but overall it seems to turn everything into a slightly fuzzy drone. not very interesting. i actually prefer the goddamn DOD "extreme" distortion that i bought at GC for , which is louder and crunchier. i guess they made this for guitarists who want to sound like koRn (tm). useless to me, i'm returning it.

Next step up from the Boss Metal Zone? I don't buy it, and neither should you, unfortunately I paid cash for mine. It may be slightly louder than the MT-2, but not by much. All the hype behind the gain boost control is merely that, it's barely discernable, the only thing I noticed is that it cut out some of the higher frequencies, and if you aren't paying careful attention you wouldn't even know it was doing that much. Pretty standard distortion, but I prefer mine rough and gritty. The tone controls are good, very sensitive, though only around the 3 -4 o'clock range, dialing down below this range doesn't do much to affect either the bass or treble. There are definitely much better distortions on the market - DOD's FX70 in all its guises, as well as the Grunge and Death Metal distortions, even the Metal Zone kicks this thing's ass. If you already own the MT-2 or a Hyper Metal, or Boss Heavy Metal distortion for that matter, best to stick w/ those, the Mega Distortion won't do the job any better.
Good Points: Decent enough tone controls.
Bad Points: Standard distortion, gain boost is practically useless, traffic cone red paint scheme

Boss says this is the next step up from the Metal Zone, and in my opinion it is. The distortion has a nice slightly crackling high gain sound to it. The gain boost is the equivalent of adding half a distortion pedal. With the gain boost and distortion controls at full throttle, any silences in your sound will be swallowed. Also, the gain boost will induce feedback with any signal where you use a mic. This is the loudest distortion pedal I have ever heard. I usually only turn it up 3/4 of the way because even with my amp at a low volume it sounds like it's pushing too hard. The Mega Distortion has tons of bass to boot and it never sounds like it reaches a ceiling and squashes itself unlike other distortions with lots of bass. With the bass all the way counter-clockwise and the tone knob on high you can get a nice lo-fi sound. Overall, it doesn't get muddy and you really don't need to use another distortion pedal with it because of the gain boost.
Good Points: Loud!!! Tons of bass. Nice high gain crackling distortion. Gain boost is like adding half a distortion pedal. The distortion and gain boost controls do not affect the overall volume, no matter if they set on high or low. Retains clarity with other types of pedals places before or after it.
Bad Points: Use a bit of caution with the volume and bass to avoid overloading any inputs or speakers, unless, of course, you want to.
